About 4thQtr
For most people, life’s fourth quarter is profoundly different than the other three.
The end is in sight. The physical signs of mortality are more frequent. Exercise and fitness programs can be viewed as a way to extend quality of life. Economic resources are being harvested. Grandkids become the focus. And for many, it is a time to give back.
Some people in the 4thQtr are also a unique source of information about subjects as varied as health and fitness, portfolio management, spirituality and religion, family and legacy, public affairs, medical conditions, and planning and technology. 4thQtr wants to capture these insights, organize them into subject matter forums, and make them available to just about anyone.
There is a profound value to thoughtful realized experience. Long years of life, if nurtured by serious examination and reflection, can produce a sort of wisdom, a sense of clarity, not generally obtainable in your younger years.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create for our forum members directly, and our observers secondarily, a unique digital community of interest, built from an inner core of carefully selected individuals to an expanding outer layer of interested participants.
This community would be focused on this group’s greatest interests and concerns, in subjects as varied as health and fitness, portfolio management, spirituality and religion, family and legacy, public affairs, medical conditions, and planning and technology. The stars of this community would be people who had walked the walk, tasted the experience, lived the trial, and explored the journey associated with the question. The stage would be a digital forum. The audience would be the seekers. The community would be almost anyone who wants to hear the story, uniquely told from the perspective of a seasoned fourth quarter traveler.
The Vision
is that a Fourth Quarter forum would be web based, initially
scripted, interactive, and supported by key data bases.
The forums would have direct members, but will allow secondary access to a much wider community. It will facilitate the creation of information based on life experiences, rather than the views of the professional expert community. For example, A medical forum, perhaps discussing prostate cancer, will sponsor a discussion among carefully selected prostate cancer survivors about alternative treatments and their aftermath. An investment forum, discussing alternative investment strategies, will sponsor a conversation among carefully selected individual investors about associated costs and returns. A forum on fitness, discussing the results from alternative approaches to cardiovascular fitness in the fourth quarter, will be led by folks who have a lifetime of interest and experience in staying fit, but have made the program corrections for aging. Professional expert opinion is greatly respected. But in many areas, there is a type of information that is only created through the experience.
The 4thQtr knowledge perspective is a scarce resource during a time when views are extreme and thoughtful analysis is almost not allowed.
The 4thQtr mission is to create a unique set of digital communities of interest, surrounding many of the critical dimensions of life, led by inner core of carefully selected 4th qtr individuals. The stars of these communities would be people who had walked the walk, tasted the experience, lived the trial, and explored the journey associated with the question. We call these communities forums.
Unrecognized by many is that the need for purpose in life can actually deepen during one’s fourth quarter.

THE 4THQTR PROCESS: HOW IT WORKS

This is version 1.0 of 4thQtr. Its fundamental goal is to launch the concept and generate the interest and participation from both the 4thQtr travelers and those interested in the 4thQtr view, both young and old. The founders will launch the dialogue with a set of essays in each of the forums. The essays will be honest, thoughtful, fact based and imperfect. The information will be improved through a feedback loop that has the same characteristics. Ideological responses will be discarded. Undefended arguments will be set aside. 4thQtr travelers will be recruited to express their views anonymously on the site.
